Cincinnati Bengals History: 2000

Cincinnati Bengals Record 2000:  4 wins and 12 losses

On August 19th, 2000 the Cincinnati Bengals played their first preseason game at the New Paul Brown Stadium against the Chicago Bears.  The Bengals won the game 24-20.  Wide Receiver Peter Warrick scored the first Bengals point in Paul Brown Stadium on a 14 yard end around running play in the first quarter of the Bengals preseason game.

The Bengals kicked off the regular season with their first game at the new Paul Brown Stadium against the rivals the Cleveland Browns on September 10th, 2000 with a Cincinnati sports event record crowd of 64,0006 in attendance . Unfortunately Bengals fans would go home unhappy as the Bengals fell 24-7.  Cincinnati Bengals rookie Wide Receiver Ron Dugans scored the Bengals first regular season points at Paul Brown stadium on a 4 yard pass from Bengals Quarterback Akili Smith

After being shutout in their next 2 games on the road Coach Bruce Coslet resigned from the Cincinnati Bengals Head Coaching job on September 25th, 2000.  He would be replaced by Dick LeBeau. Under LeBeau the Bengals kept losing dropping their first 3 games under their new coach. The Bengals misery would finally come to an end on October 22nd against the Denver Broncos at the new Paul Brown stadium. The Bengals would stun the Broncos 31-21 as Running Back Corey Dillon set a new NFL single game record by rushing for 278 yards. The Bengals would use it as springboard to win their next game in Cleveland despite not scoring a TD. The Bengals offense would continue to struggle as Quarterback Akili Smith was overwhelmed by the NFL game. Corey Dillon would go on to set a team record by rushing for 1,435 yards, but with Smith's struggles at Quarterback the Bengals finished with a terrible 4-12 record.

Coach Dick LeBeau signed a multi-year deal to begin the 2001 season.

Scored 185 points (11.6/g), 30th of 31 in the NFL.
Allowed 359 points (22.4/g), 21st.
Differential of -174 points (-10.9/g), 29th.

(Running Back Corey Dillon was named to the Pro Bowl)
