Cincinnati Bengals History: 1995

Cincinnati Bengals Record 1995:  7 wins and 9 losses

The Bengals shocked the NFL at the 1995 draft by trading up with the Carolina Panthers to the number one overall pick to select K-Jana Carter who was a star Running Back out of Penn State University.  With Jeff Blake now at the lead as the Quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals, the Bengals were able to pull out wins in their first two games.  Unfortunately the proceeded to lose their two next games without much of a fight. This gave way to Shula Bowl II.  A rematch with Don Shula and the Miami Dolphins, in which the Bengals lost in a close game 26-23.

The Bengals stayed competitive for rest of the season, but could not avoid their fifth straight losing season at 7-9. What could be one of the biggest disappointments in Cincinnati Bengals history was when the Bengals top draft pick Ki-Jana Carter suffered a knee injury during a pre-season game against the Detroit Lions.  As he was running the ball his foot got stuck in the turf on the lion’s field which was horrible.  The injury forced him to miss his entire rookie season. He would never full recover, in an injury plagued career.  He would go down with Greg Cook as one of the biggest what if in Cincinnati Bengals history.

Kicker Doug Pelfrey set the Bengals single-season scoring record with 121 points (29 FGs, 34 PATs) during the 1995 season.

Scored 349 points (21.8/g), 14th of 30 in the NFL.
Allowed 374 points (23.4/g), 24th.
Differential of -25 points (-1.6/g), 19th.

(Quarterback Jeff Black was selected to the Pro Bowl)
(Wide Receiver Carl Pickens was selected to the Pro Bowl)
