Bengals Sign 4th Rounder Geno Atkins
Written by Thaddeus Eley (Senior Writer/Growlzone.com)
The Bengals have signed fourth round Defensive Tackle, Geno Atkins. Picked up with the 120th overall selection the Georgia Bulldogs 2009 defensive MVP quickly earned the moniker of "Taz", so christened by defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, during OTA's. As the nickname implies, Atkins is known for his non-stop motor and quickness.
The Bengals hope the high effort Atkins can employ that quickness to spark some good pressure from the interior and provide some competition for playing time in the rotation with third year DT and fellow SEC alum Pat Sims.
Atkins is the third Bengals draftee to sign from the 2009 class joining fellow rookies Dezmon Briscoe, and Otis Hudson who also signed recently. This leaves the Bengals with six unsigned draft picks ten days from the opeining of training camp in Georgetown, Kentucky. Still left to sign are Jermaine Gresham, Carlos Dunlap, Jordan Shipley, Brandon Ghee, Roddrick Muckelroy, and Reggie Stephens. Stay tuned into the Growlzone as the signings should begin to come fast and furious with camp looming less than two weeks away.
