The Bengals beefed up their depth at wide receiver by signing fifth-year veteran Doug Gabriel to a one-year contract. The 6-foot-2, 215-pounder has 101 receptions for 1,550 yards and eight TDs, plus 86 career kickoff returns for a 21.5-yard average and one TD, in 57 games with 12 starts for the Oakland Raiders (2003-05) and New England Patriots (2006). Gabriel was traded to the Patriots in 2006, and reacquired by Oakland off waivers in December of that year. He was released on Aug. 27, and was idle all last season. A good catch? Doug Gabriel didn't play last year, but he caught 100 passes the previous three years for Oakland and New England. Year No. Yds. TDs 2006 30 344 3 2005 37 554 3 2004 33 551 2
Sooners' WR on radar The Bengals apparently have major interest in drafting Oklahoma wide receiver Malcolm Kelly. The Oklahoman newspaper reported the Bengals will fly Kelly in today, after he works out in front of NFL scouts on the Norman, Okla., campus. A partially torn quadriceps suffered in December caused Kelly to miss working out at the NFL Scouting Combine in February and at OU's pro day in March.
