Bengals prove they belong in the bottom of the NFL heap! Bengals 13 49ers 20 The Bengals once again showed the nation what they are made of in the 2007 season by losing to the San Francisco 49ers on national television. The loss was the ninth loss of the season for the Bengals bringing the team’s record to 5-9, and proving once again why the 2007 season may go down as one of the most disappointing Bengals season of all time. “Every time we lose it’s disappointing to me,” said Coach Lewis whose team was completely dominated in the third quarter. The defense allowed the 49ers to have the ball for 12 more minutes than the Bengals had. Frank Gore the 49ers running back was able to run for 100 yards for only the second time this season. The 49ers converted 60 percent of their third-down attempts (9-of-15) which allowed them to consistently keep the ball away from the Bengals offense and Carson Palmer.
San Francisco’s third-string quarterback, Shaun Hill, who was making his first NFL start, looked impressive against an overmatched Bengals defense. Hill was able to throw for a touchdown, and he also ran for another. He was 21-for-28 passing for 197 yards. The Bengals defense made him look like a seasoned veteran. The games ending was right in line with the season as a whole when Carson Palmer threw a bullet to Chad Johnson down the sideline and into the end zone in an attempt to tie the game up on a 4th down play with only two minutes and twenty seconds to play in the game. The ball hit Chad Johnson in the hands and the not so clutch Bengals receiver promptly dropped it! This pt an end to any hope the Bengals had of getting their sixth win. Some final game notes, Carson Palmer's 52-yard touchdown pass in the first half was the 100th in his career. Palmer is the fifth fastest in NFL history to reach the 100-touchdown milestone, behind Dan Marino, Kurt Warner, Johnny Unitas and Peyton Manning. T.J. Houshmandzadeh set a Bengals club record with his 101st reception of the season, passing the mark set by Carl Pickens who had 100 in 1996 Growlzone.com Cinicnnati Bengals News |
