X-rays on Johnson's neck come back normal after being carted off field with 1:53 left in road loss to Bills. Wide receiver Chad Johnson was wheeled off the field on a stretcher, placed in an ambulance and taken to a room at Ralph Wilson Stadium for X-rays on his aching neck. Then it was off to a local hospital for a CAT scan and more tests. With him, in the emergency room, was the Bengals' season. They fell to 2-6 after absorbing a 33-21 loss to the Buffalo Bills, who improved to 4-4 with their fourth victory in five games after an 0-3 start. Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said Johnson never lost consciousness when he got sandwiched on a hit by Bills' safety Donte Whitner and linebacker Coy Wire at Buffalo's 37-yard line with 1:53 to play. "He has movement in his body — fingers, arms and legs," Lewis said. "He underwent an X-ray here as a precaution because he was having some pain in his neck. So they did immobilize him."
Bengals spokesman Jack Brennan reported the results of the CAT scan on Johnson came back "normal" and Johnson made the team's charter flight home at 6:45 p.m. Glenn Holt's 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and two Carson Palmer TDs were ruined by a Bengals defense that got lit up for 479 yards — nearly double Buffalo's total-yardage average (246.0) entering the game. Stars of the game Buffalo's dynamite: duo of tailback Marshawn Lynch and wide receiver Lee Evans tie for the honor. Evans caught nine passes for 165 yards and a TD. Meanwhile, Lynch scored on a 56-yard burst en route to 153 rushing yards, and tossed a halfback option pass to tight end Robert Royal for an 8-yard TD. Goat of the game: Bengals cornerback Blue Adams was flagged for two penalties, including a 10-yard defensive holding on Kyle Larson's punt that gave the Bills a first down at the Bengals' 32, setting up Lynch's pass to Royal as Buffalo grabbed the lead for good. Turning point: With the Bengals ahead 21-19 at 13:05 of the fourth quarter and facing a third-and-8 at their 22-yard line, Chad Johnson dropped a wide-open slant pass at the 42 that would've produced a first down and possible TD. Buffalo responded with a pair of TDs in the final 5:51. Quote machine: "I don't have words for the way we feel in this locker room about this game and about this season. We're just not a very good team. I'm not gonna try to explain it. It's frustrating. There's nothing more you can say about it." — Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer.
