Here's some Monday morning fallout from the Bengals' 24-13 defeat at the hands of the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday in front of a record crowd of

WHAT WE LEARNED

1. RECIPE FOR DISASTER:  Mix very little pressure on the quarterback with poor coverage and even worse tackling ... and that sums up the Bengals' porous defense.
2. FLY THE (WHITE) FLAG: Trailing 14-3 and facing fourth-and-1 at the Steelers' 2-yard line at 2:21 of the second quarter, head coach Marvin Lewis called time-out ... then sent out the field-goal unit. Shayne Graham's 20-yard field goal represented the white flag of surrender.
3. KNOCK ON KENNY: The biggest bugaboo with tailback Kenny Watson is ball security. He fumbled a shovel pass at the Steelers' 16-yard line with 3:27 to go. Watson suffered a mild concussion on the hit from linebacker James Harrison, who got the tackle, forced fumble and fumble recovery.

WHAT WE STILL DON'T KNOW

1. RESPONSE TO ADVERSITY: Can and will the Bengals put this horrible performance behind them when they travel to Buffalo on Sunday, Nov. 4? We'll soon find out. The spunky, feisty Bills are hanging tough at 3-4.
2. FIRST HALF COMA: Why can't the Bengals play a decent first half? They've trailed at halftime in every game except the opener against Baltimore. They've been outscored, 82-37, in the second quarter.
3. WHY OH WHY: Would any Bengals fan want to relive the torture? The NFL Network will re-air the game in a fast-paced, 90-minute format tonight (Monday, Oct. 29) at 7 p.m.

WHO'S HOT — Wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh has caught a TD pass in 11 of the past 13 games, including all seven games this season. He made 7 grabs for 81 yards (11.6) on Sunday, including a 9-yard scoring reception from Carson Palmer at 13:02 of the fourth quarter — the club's only TD. With 58 catches for 629 yards and 9 TDs, he's on pace to shatter Carl Pickens' single-season club records of 100 receptions set in 1996. Pickens' single-season club record for TD receptions (17 in 1995) is also in jeopardy.

WHO'S NOT — Free safety Madieu Williams leads the team in penalties with six. He was credited with four tackles against the Steelers, but got burned by Hines Ward on a 6-yard TD pass over the middle from quarterback Ben Roethlisberger at 7:42 of the second quarter.

INJURY REPORT:  -  TB Kenny Watson. Mild concussion. Watson sustained his injury when he fumbled a shovel pass, got hit hard by Steelers LB James Harrison, then absorbed a knee to the head from teammate LT Levi Jones, who tried to hurdle the pile. Watson will be limited in practice this week. If he can't play at Buffalo, and Rudi Johnson's hamstring injury doesn't heal, second-year pro DeDe Dorsey will get more action against the Bills. Dorsey is a speedy, shifty, slashing runner who does a good job of catching the ball out of the backfield. He has terrific potential, but lacks experience.  DT John Thornton. Sprained shoulder. Thornton, a mainstay on the D-line, suffered a stinger in a pileup in the second half. He'll be re-evaluated this week and limited in practice. If he can't play at Buffalo, Michael Myers will start in his place. Myers, like Thornton, is a veteran with plenty of experience. He has the ability to clog the middle and push the pile.
WR/KOR Glenn Holt. Mild concussion. Holt was injured on his final kickoff return — a 33 yarder with 6:01 to go. Steelers safety Anthony Smith "pulled me down. I hit my head and was a little dizzy," Holt said. "They're a very physical team. Every ball you catch, you know you're going to get hit hard."
