Bengals left offensive tackle Levi Jones is the proud recipient of a reprieve. He'll start Sunday against the New York Jets, a week after allowing 2.5 sacks against Kansas City defensive end Jared Allen. "We're counting on him to bounce back," Cincinnati head coach Marvin Lewis said Wednesday. "I believe he will. He's a pro. He's a very prideful young man. I know he's excited to go back and put his best foot forward again, and get back on top." Big Willie's return: Right offensive tackle Willie Anderson (left knee, right foot) returned to practice and hopes to start for the Bengals on Sunday. His string of 116 straight starts was snapped when he was deactivated at Kansas City. "No, I'm not surprised Willie's back out there," Lewis said. "That's what Willie said all along — that he didn't feel like it was as severe an injury as people wanted to make it out to be. Willie keeps me updated. He's a team guy and wants to win very badly."
Jeanty practices: Bengals outside linebacker Rashad Jeanty, who practiced for the first time since undergoing surgery on his shin Aug. 31, is preparing to play. "Good to be back in shoulder pads," he said. "I'm improving a lot. Whatever they ask, I will be ready. I'm sure the guys are glad to see a guy coming in and help the depth. I'm kind of easing in on everything. The biggest thing is trying to get back. It's looking good." Injury report: Seven Bengal players — middle linebacker Ahmad Brooks (groin), wide receiver Antonio Chatman (hamstring), tailback Rudi Johnson (hamstring), tight end Reggie Kelly (ankle), linebackers Corey Mays (hamstring) and Caleb Miller (back), and free safety Madieu Williams (back) — didn't practice. New kid in town: Linebacker Kevis Coley was signed to the Bengals practice squad two days after kicker Josh Huston was released. Coley, a 6-foot-1, 230-pounder from the University of Southern Mississippi, entered the NFL as a college free agent with the New York Giants in 2006 and spent eight games on Jacksonville's practice squad. Quote machine: "(Offensive line coach) Paul Alexander had to call security because he thought someone was stealing number 71's pads. It's good to have Willie out there." — Lewis on Anderson's return to practice. Dayton Daily News |
