Yes, the Bengals defense did not allow themselves to be embarrassed again in Seattle like they had the week before in Cleveland. In the end, when the team really needed them to stop the Seahawks with less than 3 minutes to go in the game, they were no where to be found. The Seahawks marched right down the field to take the final lead of the game 24-21. The final touchdown drive included a 14 yard run on 4th and 1 by Sean Alexander and a 22-yard touchdown pass to Nate Burleson who managed like many other opposing receivers this year to get past the Bengals zone coverage.
Bengals fans have seen drives like this over the years so many times that is really was not surprising when the Seahawks finally put the ball in the endzone. It took them less than two minutes to cut right through the Bengals defense. So much for a game winning defensive stand like we saw at the Baltimore game. The defensive unit we saw at the Baltimore game is long gone and may never be coming back! “Every zone has a hole," Joseph said. "They just happened to find the hole." Opposing teams continue to find the Bengals weak spots on defense. A closer look at things reveals that finding holes in this defense is not a tough thing to do. A lack of consistency and giving upon the big play haunted the Bengals the entire game against Seattle. "Any time you lose two straight that you should have won, it feels really bad," Joseph said. "We just have to put it behind us. We can't let this hang over our head. We'll get farther behind if we do that." The Bengals may be looking at a long season if they can’t find consistency and figure out a way to stop giving up big plays like they did the entire game in Cleveland and in the last 3 minutes in Seattle.
