Bengals Fans Panicky E-mail
Written by Jeff Moore

Why is it that Bengals fans already seem to be panicking about this season?  As we speak to fans and watch Bengals blogs, we are seeing a lot of panicking going on already.  There is no need to over do it at this point.  So let us help you relax some.

First off, preseason games don’t count.  That does not meant they do not have value and can’t give you a glimpse of what may be coming this season, but it does mean that you can go 0 and 4 in the preseason and still roll away with the Super Bowl trophy at the end of the season.  The games simply do not count.

Our Bengals starters have not been on the filed for four quarters yet.  As a matter of fact, they have not been on the filed for a one full quarter yet.  Until our guys play four straight quarters, it is almost impossible to know what the team is going to do.  Additionally many of the mistakes you are seeing are coming from Bengals players who may not see the field all year long, and some won’t even be on the team when it is all said and done.

Preseason is about match ups.  It is about learning, adjusting, and making key personnel decisions.  It is about timing and repetition.  I know it is hard to watch some of the things that are happening in the first two games, and we do understand that many Bengals fans simply watch the score board to determine whether or not the Bengals are finding success, but I can assure you that Marvin Lewis is not overly interested in wins and losses in during the preseason. It simply does not matter.  Execution and each player doing their job, and young players understanding the system are things that matter.  Players staying injury free is much higher on the Coaches list when it comes to finding success this season.

The Bengals starters will be playing a lot more this upcoming week.  The third preseason game is always the game where the starters play the most.  So watch the Bengals this week.  Watch the first two quarters of the game, and let’s see how things go.  Please keep in mind though that even if the Bengals don’t fair well, it is not the end of the world or the Bengals season.  Bengal’ fans breath.  The season is 16 weeks long.  There will be lots of ups and lots of downs.

So sit back and relax.  The preseason record does not matter.
