CAMP SIGHTS AND SOUNDS

GEORGETOWN, KY.
• Recap: The Bengals endured scorching heat through two practices. Coach Marvin Lewis said practice yesterday morning was crisper than the Tuesday practices. The backup quarterbacks have struggled. Doug Johnson badly underthrew a receiver and Herana-Daze Jones intercepted the ball during a seven-on-seven drill. Fifth-round pick Jeff Rowe has done little to impress. He throws a soft ball and looks unsure of himself.

• Day's best: Chris Henry had the play of the morning practice. He caught a slant pass from Johnson, did a quick behind-the-back move with the ball to avoid an approaching tackler and kept going downfield. Plays like that are why the Bengals have put up with so much off-the-field grief with Henry.

• Position battle: With Tim Day joining Bobby Blizzard and Sean Mulcahy out because of injuries, Daniel Coats has a chance to make his mark as a potential backup to tight end Reggie Kelly. Coats, an undrafted rookie from BYU, has had an impressive start. He's a good receiver and also has proved to be a capable blocker, Lewis said.

• Rookie watch: Former Buckeyes fullback Stan White likely will be out for a while after suffering a high-ankle sprain Tuesday.

• Itinerary: There will be one practice today, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. NFL officials will work the practice.

• Quotable: "Real scary. Oh no, here we go again." -- Offensive tackle Adam Kieft, on his initial thoughts after hurting his left foot in practice Tuesday. Kieft is returning after missing two seasons because of a knee injury and had offseason surgery on the foot because of a stress fracture. Kieft was walking with only a slight limp yesterday and termed it "just tweaked."
