Bengals strong safety Kevin Kaesviharn had just turned in the performance of his life — two sacks and an interception — and he was taking it all in stride. "We understood the preparation it would take to get back on track," he said after the Bengals ended a three-game losing streak with a 31-16 victory over the Saints. "It was up to all the guys, especially the coaches, to make sure whoever was going to play was going to be ready.
"If you're a backup, you better be ready because someone got hurt. We were able to do that." Quarterback Drew Brees was aiming for tight end Mark Campbell, but Kaesviharn got in the way. "We were playing zone," Kaesviharn said. "The tight end runs an out-and-up, and tries to get the linebacker to jump the out-route and free him on the inside. I just kind of read it and jumped it." Johnson's most impressive run came with 4:07 to go when, on third and 9 at the Bengals' 40-yard line, he gained 10 yards for a clock-killing first down.
