Power Rankings These rankings were suppose to have one explicit rule, rank teams on how they have played lately, because as we all know, come playoff time, the hottest team usually wins (Not the one with the best record). Since I ate Skyline chili last night and liked it, I have decided to keep the Bengals and their miserable 1-4 record in their last five games in the hunt. However, I don't know how much longer I can do that with a straight face. So here we go, if the playoffs were set up after week 9, they would look like this... NFC 1. N.Y. Giants- Somehow they just jumped from third to first in the rankings (which should never happen if you only slip by Houston), but that's what happens when your two best stars aren't out and you didn't just lose to Miami. 2. Chicago Bears- What in the name of George Halas happened on Sunday, losing to the Dolphins is never good, unless of course Dan Marino is their quarterback.
3. Seattle Seahawks- Either Seattle has an incredibly gorgeous training staff or Matt Hasselbeck and Shaun Alexander know that they're team can sleepwalk through the NFC west. 4. New Orleans Saints- Three weeks of rankings, three different teams from the south in spot number four. The Saints are here by default though, I couldn't in good faith have anyone losing to the Lions win any division, it's an unwritten rule in vegas. 5. Atlanta Falcons- Carson Palmer loses to the Falcons, Jon Kitna beats them, I'm not sure, but I think my high school English teacher would call this dramatic irony. 6. Philadelphia Eagles- The Eagles byed there way into this spot because every other potential number six seed decided they're to good for the playoffs, and immediately went out and proved it by losing. AFC 1. Indianapolis Colts- Colts fans I have to know, how painful is it to be awesome every year and then have your playoff run last only slightly longer then a Britney Spears marriage. 2. New England Patriots- I bet Adam Vinatieri slept well Sunday night. 3. Denver Broncos- Denver plays Oakland this week, I think the over/under is 11. 4. Baltimore Ravens- The Bengals are playing their most pivotal game of the season this week, the Ravens, they get the Titans. I guess Arizona wasn't available. 5. San Diego Chargers- Please lose this week, please lose this week, please lose this week... 6. Cincinnati Bengals- Realistically, the Jaguars should probably be here, but they lost to the Texans two weeks ago and I won't be over that for at least another month. And I can't even think about putting the Chiefs here until Trent Green knows his own first name. |
