Chris Henry Will Be Back On Sunday Against The Falcons Chris Henry is up. Antonio Chatman is down.
The Bengals' revolving door at wide receiver took another spin on Friday when Henry, fresh off a two-game suspension for violating the NFL's personal-conduct and substance-abuse policies, was reinstated to the 53-man roster. Extras Henry replaces Antonio Chatman, whose severe groin injury landed him on injured reserve, ending his season.Head coach Marvin Lewis announced the moves after practice, adding that Henry will play against Atlanta on Sunday.
Lewis also said rookie free safety Ethan Kilmer, a seventh-round draft pick from Penn State, has been practicing at wide receiver."(Chatman) aggravated the injury and it was going to be at least six weeks before it was better, if not more, and they (the medical staff) wanted to make sure it's good," Lewis said. "We need the (roster) spot and we need to move forward."Sunday's game represents a fresh start for Henry, who helped the Bengals to a 3-0 start with 11 catches for 177 yards (16.1-yard average) and two touchdowns before falling victim to team and league discipline. Henry, a passenger in the car driven by suspended linebacker Odell Thurman when Thurman was arrested for DUI, was benched against New England, then suspended two games without pay and fined $20,000 by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, costing Henry $61,176 in lost wages. Chatman signed a two-year contract worth $2 million in March after leaving Green Bay as a free agent. His exit leaves the Bengals with five healthy wideouts — starters Chad Johnson and T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Henry, Glenn Holt and Reggie McNeal, the club's emergency third-string quarterback.Plagued by a groin injury that was aggravated in last Sunday's 17-14 victory over Carolina, Chatman played in three games and was limited to three catches for 22 yards, eight punt returns for a 6.6-yard average and four kickoff returns for a 23.3-yard average."It doesn't change anything," Lewis said when asked if the team will sign wide receiver Peter Warrick, who worked out for the Bengals on Tuesday. "These are the guys we knew we were going to be working with, and we're fine."Keiwan Ratliff and Kenny Watson will likely return punts and kickoffs, respectively, against the Falcons."We'll see on Sunday," Lewis said.
