Bengals Win, Bengals Win. Oh, yeah, only the first preseason game. Preseason, when the first team gets their feet wet and the young guys try to figure out where they are suppose to be and when to be there. Overall, I thought the defense played the way they've been practicing, fast and aggressive, except for the many missed tackles. Sometimes it looked as if the Packers were wearing Vaseline on their uniforms the way they slipped through the would be tacklers grasp. For the most part, the DB's covered really well, contesting most passes and playing tight coverage. I know their was one major breakdown, but, fortunately no damage. Keith Rivers came as advertised, after only a few practices.
The line did a nice job in putting pressure on the passer. Very encouraging by the seemingly few mental errors made by the defense. Guys actually doing what they are suppose to do. Wasn't there a slogan a couple of years ago, "Do your job?" Maybe they should bring it back. Overall, a good start for the Zimmer era. The offense just couldn't get started the first few series and that's what they don't need to happen. If this team if going to succeed they have to be able to move the ball and take time off of the clock. This game looked similar to the way many of the games looked last year. It would be great to see them put together a couple of drives to start a game, build every bodies confidence How about Chris Perry, he looked fast, and ran aggressively. Good for him after what he's been through. He really helps this team. Ben Utecht does the same, he adds a missing dimension. Could be fun with those two around. I thought, for the first game, pretty good. The second game should be better, we'll see. Being a Cal guy I was interested in how Aaron Rodgers would handle the situation. I thought he threw the ball really well. Also, there is a knock on QB's who have come out of the Jeff Tedford system, they have not done well. Joey Harrington and David Carr are two examples of high draft picks who have not performed up to expectations. I will be interested in watching Rogers progress as he attempts to take over from a legend. |
