Bengals Start Season With A Loss

The Bengals offense was non existent today in Baltimore.  The line was not able to protect Carson Palmer, and Palmer looked off.  Baltimore never gave Palmer the chance to really get set before he threw.  The rust had to be shaken off of the Bengals Receivers as TJ and Chad were double teamed for most of the game.  It was evident that the lack of time on the filed and the lack of reps between TJ, Chad, and Carson hurt the team.

The defense held the Ravens to 17 points, but the game actually ended with the Ravens having the ball inside the Bengals ten yard line when time ran out.  The Bengals defense looked alright, but once again failed miserably at the end of the game when they needed to hold the Ravens to get the ball back.  The Bengals have their home opener next week against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Cincinnati.

The Bengals on Thursday announced the signing of two more of their 10 draft picks.

Signing four-year contracts were sixth-round tight end Matt Sherry of Villanova and seventh-round defensive end Angelo Craig of the University of Cincinnati.

Sherry and Craig are the second and third of this year's Bengals draft picks to complete contract negotiations.

The team also has signed defensive lineman Jason Shirley of Fresno State, its fifth-round selection. The Bengals have reached an agreement on a four-year contract with seventh-round pick Mario Urrutia, a wide receiver from Louisville, agent Joe Linta said. But Urrutia has not yet signed the contract.

Contracts are relatively straightforward and slotted according to the draft order for later-round picks.

To the Bengals, success would be getting their picks from the first two rounds, linebacker Keith Rivers and wide receiver Jerome Simpson, signed and at training camp when it opens July 28.

Rivers, the No. 9 pick, is expected to start at outside linebacker. Simpson is to compete for the third receiver job with third-round pick Andre Caldwell and a group of veterans that includes Marcus Maxwell, Glenn Holt and Antonio Chatman.
