Growlzone.com week 6 power rankings E-mail
Written by John Breech

If this were 2002 and Dick Lebeau was the Bengals head coach, I would write this season off faster then you can say Akili Smith. 1-4 is only a bad way to start the season if your final 11 games are all against the New England Patriots. However, minus division opponents, the remaining teams on the Bengals schedule have a cumulative record of 10-29 (That would be the Jets, Bills, Cardinals, Titans, Rams, 49ers and Dolphins to anyone that does not have a schedule in front of them). That’s like Ohio State finishing their season against the Sun Belt conference. Can the Bengals make the playoffs; did Julia Roberts marry Lyle Lovett, it’s a done deal people. That being said, the Bengals need to go 3-1 in their final 4 division games (Steelers twice, Ravens, Browns). For those of you that tore your meniscus jumping off the Bengals bandwagon, I hear the Browns are .500 this season, you can cheer for them.
Anyway, let’s get to the rankings. Oh and I think that I am going to bet my car that the Patriots cover the spread this week.

NFC

1. Dallas Cowboys- After the beat down the Cowboys suffered this week, I think they might lose the NFC Championship on purpose if it means not playing the Patriots again. The Cowboys will have their hands full Sunday with the up and coming Vikings, I’ll take the ‘boys 27-21.

2. Green Bay Packers- Brett Favre finally plays like he’s 47 and the Packers still find a way to win. Good thing for the rest of the team that Brett has a week off to rest every part of his body that hurts, which may or may not be all of it.

The Cincinnati Bengals NFL football team has a long history.  The Bengals first year in the league was in 1968.  The Bengals fans have rooted for their team since 1968 when Paul Brown the Original Owner brought the Bengals franchise to the forefront of the American Football League.  Since then the team has had nine different Coaches.  The Cincinnati Bengals overall club record since 1968 is 266 wins, 342 losses, and 1 tie.  The winningest Coach in Bengals history based on winning percentage is Forrest Greg with a 557% winning average.  Sam Wyche has the most wins with 68 total of wins.  We have taken the time to provide you with a history of the Bengals team which includes Bengals club records, bengals win loss record, and many other interesting Cincinnati bengals facts.

Pre -1965:

Cincinnati Bengals History Pre 1965:

The first professional football team in the Cincinnati, Ohio area was the known as the Cincinnati Bengals.  The team was formed in 1937, and they were a part of the American Football League. The 1937 Cincinnati Bengals finished with a 2-4-2 record in their first and only year.  Unfortunately for the team, the AFL football league folded after only its first season. The Bengals continued to play football as an independent team in 1938.  In 1939 a new AFL League was formed and the Bengals again signed up to play football in the league.  The team finished in second place with a very respectful record of 6 wins and 2 losses.  But unfortunately, the second version of the AFL league folded like the first one after its one and only season in 1939.

In 1940, another new AFL emerged, and the Bengals were quick to join the league. But that AFL ended up folding like the other AFL Leagues had.  Its final season was in 1941.  This was the end for the original Cincinnati Bengals.

Surgery won't end receiver's career E-mail
Written by Bill Rabinowitz

Tab Perry had surgery Tuesday on the injured hip that has cut short his past two seasons, but Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said doctors expect the receiver to be able to resume his career.  During training camp, Perry said his hip had healed.  "I think internally, he was having more problems than he let on to us," Lewis said. "He spoke to someone else and they said, 'Why don't we try this now and maybe we can fix you for good?' I think he chose to take that route because he was having some discomfort. If it all goes well, then Tab should come back and be able to play NFL football."  The Bengals hoped Perry could be the team's No. 3 receiver, but he caught only one pass for 7 yards.

Jones will start: Lewis said Levi Jones will start at left tackle against the New York Jets. Jones was benched Sunday after he allowed Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Jared Allen to get 2½ sacks in the game's first 17 minutes. Andrew Whitworth shifted from left guard to spell Jones.  "I think he has bounced back fine," Lewis said. "We're counting on him to bounce back. I believe he will. He's a pro. He's a very prideful young man. I know he's excited to go back and put his best foot forward again and get back on top."
