Here it is everyone, the Growlzone.com 2008 NFL preview. It’s sure to be more exciting then Michael Phelps’s win in the 100m butterfly, more fun then a party involving Chris Henry, a college sorority and a keg of tequila and more messed up then Shawn Merriman’s knee (if that’s possible).
Injuries are the story of the year for the Cincinnati Bengals. With the offensive line continually shuffling like a deck of cards, the rest of the team has been hurting too. We’ve lost our first 3 picks in the 2005 NFL draft, Pollack (Neck), Thurman (Suspension), Henry (Suspension), and 7th round pick Tab Perry (Injury). This week Marvin Lewis has said that Kelly Washington is inactive and Antonio Chatman is nursing an abdominal strain. The receiving corps is hurting just as much as the O-line and the LB corps. To fix this gap the Bengals brought back WR Peter Warrick for a workout on Tuesday morning.Warrick is 12th on the Bengals all-time receiving list, and could be a serviceable punt returner for a few weeks. Warrick didn’t turn out to be the 4th overall pick we thought he would in 2000, but he would add some depth to a banged up squad.

Around 3:40 p.m. Sunday afternoon, Bob Bratkowski made the gutsiest call by a Bengals coach since Sam Wyche started letting women in the locker room. If for some reason you were on a trans-atlantic flight and were unable to see the game or the highlight, the call was simple. Fourth and one, Bengals trailing 14-10 in the late fourth quarter, at the Panther’s thirty-five yard line, a field goal is not an option. Instead, Carson Palmer lofted a ball into the swirling winds of Cincinnati and hoped his favorite target Chad Johnson would come down with it. As the ball hung in the air, you could hear the silence in the crowd, if thoughts were audible, 60,000 fans were thinking “what in the name of Al Michaels is going on here, give it to Rudi…” However, those thoughts would be brief as Carson’s perfectly thrown strike would fall into the hands of a diving Johnson and send Bengal nation into a euphoria we haven’t seen since McDonald’s was selling orange Ickey (milk) shakes. (Last year’s playoff game doesn’t count, we were only pumped for one play before Carson was Kimo’d and Steeler’s fans gave us their terrible tissues to cry in). Then bam, before you can say Houshmandzadeh, the Bengals found themselves on the smiling end of a 17-14 final.
I've come to the conclusion that Cincinnati Bengals fans are fickle.
I should know.
It probably stems from the fact the team has been the Bungles for much of its existence, a team that seemed to go back and forth between mediocrity and disaster, save for its two Super Bowl years. And even then, the Bengals lost the Big Ones.
{mosimage}Bengals backup safety has three interceptions in the last four games, but the Panthers say he just got lucky. Keyshawn Johnson said Kevin Kaesviharn was lucky. Kaesviharn's teammates say he's just good.
Either way, the Bengals backup safety made a game-changing play Sunday at Paul Brown Stadium.
Cincinnati led Carolina 17-14 with 3:57 left when Kaesviharn stepped in front of Johnson. The sixth-year defensive back jumped up, intercepted Jake Delhomme's third-and-goal pass and got his feet inbounds in the back of the end zone.
{mosimage}News: Bengals WR Chris Henry is eligible to return to practice Wednesday after serving his two-game league suspension for violating and personal conduct and substance abuse policies. This will give the Bengals one more option at Wide Receiver and one more weapon to use against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.
That's good news for the Bengals. Henry has been a good No. 3 WR this year and fits into the offense well. The Fact that the Bengals will have both Chris Henry and Chris Perry back in the line up at the same time should really help bolster the offense.
{mosimage}Cincinnati safety Kevin Kaesviharn's interception of a Jake Delhomme pass in the end zone preserves 17-14 win.
How do you stop the bleeding of a two-game losing streak and soar into a first-place tie in the AFC North Division standings?
You make big play after big play after big play.
The Bengals' 17-14 triumph over the Carolina Panthers in front of 65,964 spectators at Paul Brown Stadium on Sunday was as easy as 1-2-3.
Quarterback Carson Palmer's 32-yard pass to Chad Johnson down the right sideline on a gutsy fourth-and-one call from the Panthers' 35 set the stage for Palmer's game-winning, 1-yard touchdown pass to T.J. Houshmandzadeh with 8:07 to go.
Good thing Marvin Lewis is a coach and not a doctor.
"We put a little penicillin on the virus," Lewis said yesterday after the Bengals rallied for a 17-14 victory over the Carolina Panthers in Paul Brown Stadium.
Defensive tackle Sam Adams said the Bengals defense needed this kind of test.
The Carolina Panthers have arguably the game’s top receiver in Steve Smith. They have a proven winner in quarterback Jake Delhomme and a capable runner in DeShaun Foster.
